hey,

I've been working on to get my flashlight (not the mesh.. but the actual light rays :)) look better in 3rd person view. Here's what I have so far...

I was checking out other games and spotted how somebody with a bicycle was driving and spotted a "small *bright thing* near the source of light" - and was wondering if I should use some sort of bright particle to show "where the light begins".

Besides this, I started wondering how those "light rays" could be done... so that the light could look more like here:

Any ideas?

Try something similar to what Matt did for Arab. Use a transparent cone/cylinder.

Another possibility would be a mesh with the bloom material applied on it. This in combination with a alphamap could do the trick... This is the result of bloom I used for a TL light (no alpha though)

The godray post-processing effect would actually work for this. They did something similar in Alan Wake.

well you sure have to modify it.

But you could acheive the effect shown in this video like that.
